Get Your Kicks with Route 66 Sandwiches

Route 66, also known as the Main Street of America, is the inspiration behind Schlotzsky’s latest menu additions. Running from Chicago to California, the historic stretch of highway winds its way through numerous states, incorporating a variety of different cultures, tastes, and flavors. From now until August 25, the home of The Original round-toasted sandwich will feature these flavors in three signature sandwiches.

After the initial leg in 2010, which was the most successful summer promotion in company history, Schlotzsky’s extended its journey down Route 66 to the fall season. Gearing up for another trip, which combines the flavors of the last two promotions, Schlotzsky’s has brought back the Windy City Pastrami & Swiss, California Chick, and Albuquerque Turkey.

“Back in 2010, our guests fell in love with the bold, regional flavors of the Route 66 promotion,” says Kelly Roddy, president of Schlotzsky’s. “We could not be more excited to bring back these crowd-favorite sandwiches and celebrate this historic stretch of highway again this summer.”

The three signature sandwiches include:

· Windy City Pastrami & Swiss: sliced pastrami and melted Swiss cheese with Dijon mustard and our signature dressing on toasted Dark Rye bread.

· California Chick: thinly sliced, roasted chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, bacon, guacamole, red onion, tomatoes, lettuce and fat free spicy ranch dressing on toasted Jalapeño Cheese bread.

· Albuquerque Turkey: smoked turkey breast and crispy bacon with cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan cheeses layered with fire-roasted vegetables, chipotle mayonnaise, shredded lettuce, tomato and our signature dressing on toasted Jalapeño Cheese bread.

Cinnabon now served at NW Grand Prairie Schlotzsky’s Deli

August 17, 2010 – Although, you wouldn’t have guessed it from the name, Schlotzsky’s Deli is a Texas original.  It was created nearly 40 years ago in Austin, by Don and Delores Dissman.  They gave their restaurant that funny name because they thought it was just that… funny.

Recently, Schlotzsky’s has partnered with Cinnabon to serve cinnamon rolls at select locations.  Julio Van Scoit is the owner of the northwest Grand Prairie location which just added a Cinnabon Express.  He is confident in the potential success of the venture, and believes it will add to the loyal customer base. “If they try it once, they’ll be back,” says Van Scoit.

The restaurant is located at 2035 N. Highway 360, on the southbound service road, near Chapp’s Café.  From the customer’s perspective, the store is clean, and that is backed up by the city’s April 2010 inspection which gave them an “A”.  Schlotzsky’s staff is friendly, and orders are served quickly and accurately.

A gooey Cinnabon Classic Roll will cost you $3.49.  When you add with your combo meal and tax, you are probably near $10.  It’s a bit pricey if you’re comparing with fast-food, but not when you consider other delis’ complete meal cost.  Also, there are coupons available in the Ad Pages in your mailbox or at AdPages.com, for a free Classic Roll with purchase of a medium combo.  Not a bad deal for a very filling lunch.

There are 15 different sandwiches on the menu at Schlotzsky’s.  Currently, the company is promoting a Make Your Picks 66 contest which focuses on a trio:  Albuquerque Turkey, Tulsa Two-Step Angus Beef and Cheddar, and Windy City Pastrami and Swiss.  The grand prize is a 6-night family vacation to your ideal spot on Route 66.  Entries are being accepted through August 29, 2010, at www.makeyourpicks66.com.
